On today's quiz we are going to make an 8 step melody, 16 step melody, or 32 step melody.
  1. Make sure you have a Mixer 14:2
  2. Set Tempo to anything between 70-110 bpm
  3. Create a Malstrom or a Combinator.
  4. Click on the folder of whatever instrument you choose.
  5. Go to Reason Factory Sound Bank: Malstrom Patches: Mono Synths: Choose any sound. If you picked the Combinator, go to Reason Factory Sound Bank: Combinator Patches: Synth Poly: Choose any sound.
  6. Create a Matrix!
  7. On the Matrix, set your steps to either 8, 16, or 32.
  8. You may want to change the Matrix from Octave 3 to Octave 4, or maybe down to Octave 2.
  9. Now turn the volume off on three of the steps if your steps are 8. Turn the volume off 6 notes if your steps are 16. Turn your volume off 12 notes if your steps are 32.
  10. Create your melody, then copy it to track using these steps:
  11. Move your Right loop point to R3.
  12. Right Click on the Matrix and select Copy Pattern To Track.
  13. Move the Right loop point to R5 and the Left loop point to L3.
  14. On the Matrix, Select Pattern 2.
  15. Move the Octave Switch up one Octave from the one you are on.
  16. Create the EXACT SAME MELODY FROM PATTERN 1, BUT MAKE SURE THIS MELODY IS ONE OCTAVE HIGHER THAN PATTERN 1!
  17. Copy pattern 2 to track. Make sure that L is at 3 and R is at 5.
  18. Move the Left loop point to L1.
  19. Click the Pattern Button on the Matrix.
  20. Create a Redrum and make a 16 OR 32 step drum pattern using a Clap or Snap, Bass Drum, Hi Hat, and Percussion. Make sure you put the sounds on appropriate boxes!
  21. On the Redrum, Copy Pattern To Track and turn the Pattern Button off.
  22. Create a Dr. Rex.
  23. Load in a Dr. Rex Percussion Loop of your choice.
  24. Push the "To Track" button on the Dr. Rex.
  25. Save your beat as (YOUR NAME) MATRIX QUIZ.
