Making a Full Song Part 1

The semester is almost over and it's time to learn how to make our beats into full length songs! Today we will begin the first process of making a full beat: Making the Loop. We have been making the loop the entire time in class.

You can use a Keyboard OR The Matrix to make Today's beat. Lets get started!

1. Open Reason

2. Create an MClass Mastering Suite Combi

3. Create a Mixer 14:2

4. Set your tempo between 70-110.

5. Create a Redrum and make a
32 step drum beat using a Clap OR Snare, Bass drum, Hi Hat, and a Percussion. Make sure all of your sounds are on the correct boxes. Move R to 5 Copy your pattern to track.

6. Create a Dr. REX Loop Player. Load a Dr. Rex Percussion Loop & put it "To Track".

7. Now you can create ANY SAMPLER (nn19/nnxt) OR SYNTHESIZER (subtractor/malstrom/combinator). Load in ANY Sound you like. If you want to use a keyboard to make your melody, make sure your keyboard is plugged in. If you want to use the matrix, make sure you create a matrix AFTER you pick your sound.

8. Record your melody using the keyboard OR Copy it to track using the matrix. Make sure you QUANTIZE your melody if you use a keyboard. Make sure you Put your matrix box on the correct track if you use the matrix.

9. Repeat steps 7 & 8 to make another melody with a new sound.

10. When you are finished you should have on the track the following: 32 step redrum beat, dr. rex percussion loop, 2 melodies using either the keyboard or the matrix.

11. Save your beat as (YOUR NAME) FULL SONG.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU SAVE THIS BEAT! THIS WILL BE THE FIRST BEAT THAT WE TURN INTO A FULL SONG!
